An Exciting Day with Disney on Ice

I was fortunate to win 4 tickets to Disney on Ice' s Let's Celebrate show at The Palace of Auburn Hills a couple weeks ago.  We were given the choice of two nighttime weekday shows, or the daytime Friday show.  I decided I must be getting old, because I didn't want to be out late and went for the daytime show.  The kids got all their schoolwork ahead of time, and took their spelling tests the day before, so even though the missed school, they had their work done.

We had some pretty nice seats about 11 rows up from the ice...if I counted correctly.  Here the kids are anxiously waiting for the show to start.

To me the show didn't start off too exciting.  There was a lot of dialogue, it was hard to keep track of who was supposedly 'talking' and all the characters were all over the place.  I was scared I was going to get a headache trying to figure it all out and then the ice dancing, with neat effects, began and it ended up being very fun to watch.  Here Mickey Mouse is with the broomsticks that looked kinda neat in the black lights.

This was from the Halloween celebration.

Where Minnie and Mickey Mouse became a princess and prince.

Some more cool lighting effects toward the end.

We took off from The Palace fairly quickly to get ahead of the traffic and went to the nearby Rainforest Cafe.  (It was a great suggestion from my mom.  She went with us, since Rich had to work.  She also took all the pics, since I forgot my camera.  Thanks Mom!)

The kids thought this was the absolute coolest place to eat EVER!  It even tops McDonald's now. ;-)

The place was already cool since it looks like you're eating in a rain forest, but then the animals come to life a little at a time....then a thunderstorm makes the whole place come alive!  If that wasn't enough, they then got this awesome 'live' volcano dessert!  McDonald's is basically nothing to them now...lol!

 This smile says it all!
The kids REALLY wanted something from the Rainforest Cafe store, so we ended up letting them flatten a couple pennies for 'souvenirs'.  Blake asked me if he could spend his penny after he had gotten done flattening it.  I had to laugh-we just spent 50 cents to make his penny totally worthless...sorry buddy, but nope! ;-)

Next on the agenda, at least for the kids, was a new Wii game at their grandparents' house.  It happened to be a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle game, so if you ask Blake his favorite part of the day, he would probably tell you all about that game. ;-)

We rounded off the day with a Girl Scout meeting.  Morgan loves Girl Scouts, so to her we couldn't have ended the day in a better way. :-)

I had a great day as well.  I enjoyed seeing the wonderment in the kids' faces with all the excitement of the day.  That was probably my favorite part, but I can't leave out the fact that I drove...on an expressway...in towns with more than one traffic light...for the 2nd time since my last accident.  The first time I drove in a 'high traffic' area since the accident I couldn't breath from the anxiety.  I flipped out and felt like I couldn't do it again.  (Imagine feeling like every car that passes, or every car following behind you, is going to hit you...that's how I felt driving.)  So now that, after 6 months, I know I can, it feels good!  I even ventured out again last Friday to the nearby busy city and I survived!  Crazy! ;-)

Boy Scout Firsts and Fun

Blake has been enjoying several aspects of Boy Scouts.  I like that they have many activities to make it as fun as possible for the boys...plus they can learn some neat things along the way too.

Blake had his first Blue & Gold Banquet back in February where he received his Tiger Cub badge.  Rich is his leader, so he presented Blake with his badge.  Kinda a special moment ;-)

Blake also had his first Pinewood Derby last weekend.  He and Rich worked hard on the little wooden racecar.  Blake designed it and Rich helped where needed.

This is his finished car.  He wanted to make a "Hulk" car. :-)
His "Hulk" car actually won it's first race and went on to win another race as well.  There were no placings beyond the first three, but he did really well and probably ended up somewhere in the middle of all the cars. (You can see how well it did on it's first run.  It was actually quite exciting!)
They handed out certificates for various things depending on the design of the cars and Blake got "Most Shocking".  Rich said it should have been "Most Smashing"....since Hulk always says "Hulk SMASH!" ;-)

The kids also get to do some fun things beyond the meetings.  They've had "Go See Its" where they've been on a nature walk, went to the fire hall and rode a fire truck, learned about the library and most recently toured a local radio station.  The whole cub pack also had a fun outing a few weeks ago where they went ice skating.  It was Blake's first time on ice skates and he was all smiles the WHOLE time!  It was too cute!

I can see Blake sticking with the Scouts for a while.  It's been fun so far! :-)

"Iesodo" Faith-based Children's DVDs Review

*Disclosure: I was provided copies of two of the DVDs in exchange for my honest review.  I was not compensated in any way.

About Iesodo from the Press Release:
Iesodo (YAY-sa-doe) is a highly acclaimed Telly and Accolade Award winning series featuring a cast of animated birds who live in a Cypress Tree on the shores of Galilee. Presented with cutting edge imagery, Iesodo, which means “The way of Jesus”, is a wise and gentle dove that gives an allegory to the stories and messages of Jesus with “solid biblical teaching.” (American Family Journal). With each and every story, he and his lovable feathered friends “present the essence of the Gospel of Jesus Christ in a winsome, compelling way” through music and adventure (MovieGuide.org).

Directors for the series include Brian E. Ray whose credits consist of Muppet Babies, My Little Pony Tales and Ed, Ed, and Eddy, as well as Colin Brady, whose credits include Toy Story, Toy Story 2 and A Bug's Life. Brady also served as the former animation supervisor for Pixar Animation Studios. Producer Eric S. Rollman, President/CEO of Rollman Entertainment, formerly served as President of Production for Fox Kids and Marvel, and writer/producer Rob Loos is an Emmy Nominee and writer/producer for McGee and Me! Christmas Lamb, Kids 10 Commandments and Touched by an Angel. The Iesodo series also features the voice of Erin Bethea (Fireproof, Amazing Love) as Maggie.

Check out the Iesodo Trailer:

My Review:
I received a copy of "LOVE" and the newest release, "FAITH", out of the three current Iesodo DVDs.  (The third is "BELIEVE".)  Each DVD has two 15 minute episodes, which is great for little ones with short attention spans or if you don't want your child watching too much TV/videos.

My kids were super excited to have the opportunity to watch the Iesodo videos.  We first had to learn how to pronounce the word "Iesodo" as "Yay-Sa-Doe".  I think we have it down now! ;-)  The characters, mostly birds, are very cute and the animation, in general, in beautiful.  We enjoyed the simple humor and the wonderful songs....the kids even tried singing along!

I personally like that the stories are Bible stories that teach the kids very important Christian principles.  Although I feel it's important for the children to know the real Bible stories, I think the Iesodo DVDs are a great way to help the kids understand what they should be learning from those stories.

Buy It!
To learn more about the Iesodo DVDs please visit Iesodo.com.  The DVDs can be purchased on amazon.com for anywhere from $12.74 to $14.99, or at Wal-Mart and Christian retail stores.

About God's Amazing World!
Gracie and her cousin Bo explore the seven days of Creation, all without leaving the backyard! As Gracie tells the story of how God made the world, she and Bo find evidence of each day’s work right there around them. When they get to Day 2, the day God created the sky, they take a moment to cloud watch. Day 3 leads them to play in the water, and on Day 6, they imitate the cows and pigs and lions God made.

This sweet, clever picture book by Eileen Spinelli overflows with enthusiasm for God’s Creation, and children will catch the excitement and will begin to view their own surroundings as a tour of God’s lovely world. Parents can use this beautiful book to introduce children to the concept of God’s work in the world and to encourage appreciation, understanding, and stewardship of the world around us.

My Review:
God's Amazing World is such a cute, sweet book!  As I read it to my two little ones, they smiled and giggled at the fun pictures depicting the imaginations of the characters in the book.

I enjoyed how God's Amazing World teaches children how God created the world in a fun and memorable way.  I also loved the interaction between the characters/cousins in the book. Reading how the older one was more than willing to teach the younger one about the story of creation was just so sweet!

I can see God's Amazing World being read over and over again in our home.  I highly recommend making this book a part of your children's home library as well! ;-)

Buy It:
God's Amazing World can be purchased for $15.99 at Idealsbooks.com.  Hardcover with jacket, 10 x 10, 32 pages, ages 4 to 8.

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

The kids did their traditional scouring the living room to find where the leprechaun hid the clues this morning.  (The back side of the chocolate coins are numbered, so the kids could put them in order.)

Which led them to the leprechaun and his pot of gold...in a pot! :-)

And our corned beef and cabbage is in the crock-pot cooking.

No parade this year...or endless shamrock inspired crafts...or fun Irish treats...I'm really slacking, aren't I?  It was so much easier to do all those things when the kids were little and we were home all the time.

If I am feeling ambitious, I may make some Irish Soda Bread, or I may nap instead.  Whatever illness struck over the weekend is really taking a toll on me....and the fact that I'm avoiding caffeine until I feel better may be adding to the pure exhaustion. :-/

I hope you all have a Happy St. Patrick's Day! :-)

"Let God" Movie Review

*Disclosure:  I received this DVD in exchange for my honest review.  I was not compensated in any other way and all opinions are my own.

About Let God:
As rumors of gold in California spread across the United States in 1848, Levi decides it is time to head west with Amelia, his young housewife, to stake their claim and build a better life.  Against her better judgement, Amelia honors her husband's demands, leaving her home and family.  Secretly, they join the last wagon caravan of the season dangerously late, leaving behind a string of bad debts.  On the trail, they encounter unimaginable danger that will ultimately change the course of their lives.

After a savage attack takes her husband, Amelia is left alone and without resources.  For the first time, Amelia must take life into her own hands, battling winter, hunger and the unknown.  As she grows weaker by the day, she finds strength in a mysterious and unexpected guide.  Survival becomes a race against time and Amelia must find something greater than herself to help survive the frigid winter along the Oregon Trail.

From the Press Release:
In addition to winning both “Best Feature” and “Best Actress” honors at the 2013 Breckenridge Film Festival, “Let God” was also an official selection at the 2013 Gideon Film Festival and has earned the Dove “Family-Approved” Seal for any age. “This is a terrific Story!” said the Dove Foundation. “The writer/director and leading actress Jasmine Jandreau, as Amelia, somehow manages to make this story of survival a powerful movie about trials and a faith that overcomes all odds…You will enjoy watching this one. Don’t miss it!”

Take a peak at the trailer:

My Review:
Let God was a very intriguing and inspiring movie to watch.  As different struggles arose for Amelia, I couldn't help but wonder how God planned to get her through.  At times the mood became intense, but was never too much for the kids, who watched the movie with us.  When there were slower parts in Let God, I thought that the kids might actually lose interest, only being 6 and 7, but they were just as intrigued by the whole situation/predicament as my husband and I were.  The kids kept asking questions to things that they didn't understand about the era and I feel they really learned a lot about 'the olden days'.  Not only that, but in the end I felt good that we were able to watch it together and all see the message about never losing faith and trusting that God can help us through even the toughest of times.

Buy It!
Let God released on DVD February 25th and can be pruchased through The Christianbook Group for $12.99

When Calls the Heart: Lost & Found DVD Review

*Disclosure: I received a copy of the following DVD in exchange for my honest review.  I was not compensated in any way and all opinions are my own.

About When Calls the Heart: Lost & Found:
“When Calls the Heart” tells the captivating story of Elizabeth Thatcher (Erin Krakow), a young teacher accustomed to her high society life, who receives her first classroom assignment in Coal Valley, a small coalmining town where life is simple, but often fraught with challenges. Lori Loughlin plays Abigail Stanton, a wife and mother whose husband, the foreman of the mine, along with a dozen other miners, has just been killed in an explosion. The newly widowed women find their faith is tested when they must go to work in the mines to keep a roof over their heads. Elizabeth charms most everyone in Coal Valley, except Constable Jack Thornton (Daniel Lissing) who believes Thatcher’s wealthy father has doomed the lawman’s career by insisting he be assigned in town to protect the shipping magnate’s daughter. Living in a 19th century coal town, Elizabeth will have to learn the ways of the frontier if she wishes to thrive in the rural west on her own.

He has developed and/or produced, directed, and written screenplays for Fox, CBS, NBC, Disney, Sony, Lifetime, and others.

Brian Bird- Writer/Producer : Brian Bird is co-founder with partner Michael Landon, Jr., of Believe Pictures, a film and television production company. He was co-executive producer and writer on the successful television series, Touched by an Angel. Adding to Brian’s success, he had also written and produced episodes of Evening Shade, Step by Step and The Family Man. Most recently, Bird wrote and produced Gametime, a two-hour television pilot for NBC, The Shunning, inspired by the novel by best-selling author Beverly Lewis, for the Hallmark Channel, and Not Easily Broken, adapted from the novel by T.D. Jakes and released theatrically by Sony/TriStar.

Take a peak at the following preview of the series:

My Review:
I want to start off by saying that this movie was thoroughly enjoyed by my whole family.  I always enjoy Hallmark films and I really appreciate that they are safe for my family to see as well.  This is one that my kids have even asked to watch again.  Morgan, going on 8 years old (crazy!), especially likes the developing relationship between the characters, Elizabeth and Jack.  I really get a kick out of her giggling, then hiding under the blanket as if the conversations between the two is just too much.

In seeing the show that was made to lead into this one, I have to say there were bits that were confusing at first.  How Elizabeth knows the Constable is completely different, as well as a few other minor things.  The actors are different as well, but none of this takes away from the movie at all.  It is still completely enjoyable to watch and you can't help but want to see what comes next! :-)

And if you don't want to take my word for what a great series this is, read what others have had to say:

“A TERRIFIC SERIES FOR THE ENTIRE FAMILY”
-Dove Foundation
“absolutley beautiful and very entertaining”
-Movie Guide

When Calls the Heart: Lost &Found released on DVD February 25th, and can be purchased at Christianbook.com for $14.99.

Campbell's Heart Healthy Recipes and Coupons!

*Disclosure: This post was sponsored by the Campbell's Soup Company.
Staying heart healthy comes as quite a challenge at times for many of us.  My family tends to do okay in the getting enough exercise department.  Rich always has some type of manual labor he has to do between taking care of the cattle, surveying, firefighting and various other things.  The kids love to get outside whenever they can and run around.  Plus Morgan loves to dance around the living room.  (Should I mention the rough-housing they do?  Because they seem to like that too.;-)  )  As far as myself, I have been diligent at working out on average of 6 days a week, for the last few years, to stay fit-ish. ;-)

Staying active really isn't too hard for us, but I have to admit our family may not always eat the healthiest.  This time of year I enjoy baking, and eating, all those delicious comfort foods.  But in the summertime, when the garden is in full swing,  we eat veggies constantly to keep up with the abundance....and to make up for all the unhealthy eating through the winter months.  ;-)

Campbell's wants to help everyone eat heart healthy all year round, so not only have they created some delicious looking healthy recipes, but they also have a great list of coupons to help get us all get started on a healthier lifestyle!

Check out some of the yumminess:
Grilled Bruschetta Chicken

Creamy Chicken & Vegetables over Spaghetti Squash

Pizza Primavera with Cauliflower Crust

Pork Medallions with Spinach & Barley

Slow-Cooked Chicken & Butternut Squash

I know I can't wait to try some of these recipes out!
