A Firefighter's Promise

My Review:

I read A Firefighter's Promise so far, out of the six books, and thoroughly enjoyed it!  The story pulled me in right away and I didn't want to put the book down!  It is the kind of book that the author wrote so well that I was feeling the emotions right along with the characters in the book.  Beyond the love story, the book was also filled with bits of suspense, heartbreak, humor and pretty much anything most women would find joy in reading.

Personally, I enjoyed that A Firefighter's Promise was wholesome and made me feel good for reading it.  I loved the strong faith of the characters and that they were prayerful about the situations they were in.  Being that my husband is a firefighter, I felt like I could also relate to the aspect of being a firefighter's wife as I read it.

So much of A Firefighter's Promise was exactly what I enjoy in a good book!  Knowing that all the books in the Love Inspired series are written in the same way, I'm really looking forward to reading the remaining five books I received! :-)

Don't Miss the 2 Hour Season 2 Premier of "When Calls the Heart" on April 25th!! #GIVEAWAY (5/3) #FaithTV #Hearties

*Disclosure (in accordance with the FTC’s 16 CFR, Part 255: “Guides Concerning the Use of Endorsements and Testimonials in Advertising”): Many thanks to Propeller Consulting, LLC for providing this prize for the giveaway. Choice of winners and opinions are 100% my own and NOT influenced by monetary compensation. I did receive a sample of the product in exchange for this review and post.

I have to tell you that the opportunity to watch the season premier of When Calls the Heart before it aired was the most exciting opportunity I've had for my blog in quite some time!  So much so, that I actually went out and bought new speakers for my computer in order to watch it.  The old speaker had been dead for about two months and I didn't have a good reason to replace it until now. :-)

About the series:
The series is inspired by Janette Oke’s bestselling book series about the Canadian West. “When Calls the Heart” tells the captivating story of Elizabeth Thatcher (Erin Krakow), a young teacher accustomed to her high society life, who receives her first classroom assignment in Coal Valley, a small coalmining town where life is simple, but often fraught with challenges. Lori Loughlin plays Abigail Stanton, a wife and mother whose husband, the foreman of the mine, along with a dozen other miners, has just been killed in an explosion. The newly widowed women find their faith is tested when they must go to work in the mines to keep a roof over their heads. Elizabeth charms most everyone in Coal Valley, except Constable Jack Thornton (Daniel Lissing) who believes Thatcher’s wealthy father has doomed the lawman’s career by insisting he be assigned in town to protect the shipping magnate’s daughter. Living in a turn of the century coal town, Elizabeth will have to learn the ways of the frontier if she wishes to thrive in the rural west on her own.

My family has watched every episode of the first season of When Calls the Heart.  We fell in love with the series and I even started reading, and loving, Janette Oke books because of When Calls the Heart.  There are very few TV series that I'm comfortable letting my children, who are 7 and 8, watch.  Actually, besides PBS, this is the only show my kids can watch!  They absolutely LOVE it and ask to watch it over and over again!

The Season 2 Premier of When Calls the Heart was just as wholesome, exciting and wonderful as the first season.  New characters were introduced, many new plot twists came about and, at the end of the 2 hours, (that absolutely FLEW by) I was left anxious to see what happens next!  I don't want to give a single moment away by revealing more.  I know those who love this series will want to see it all for themselves without a thing being spoiled. ;-)

Be sure to watch the Season 2 Premier of When Calls the Heart April 25th, 8/7 Central on The Hallmark Channel!

My Review:
"Grace of God" was a great faith-based movie!  I really appreciated that it dug into the fact that we're all sinners and no one is better than anyone else.  Plus, even though we're Christians, we're still going to make mistakes and need God's forgiveness.

I also liked that "Grace of God" was 'clean'.  I didn't have to worry about foul language, or anything really, while watching it.  Even the more intense scenes were pretty laid-back compared to most other movies.  It was refreshing to watch! :-)

I highly recommend seeing "Grace of God" and sharing it with your friends too! :-)

"Grace of God" can be purchased at Wal-Mart for $12.96.

"The Adventures of Pajama Girl and the Coronation of the Cupcake Queen" Review and GIVEAWAY! (4/19) #PajamaGirl

About the book:
A cute, illustrated story about a girl's imagination and her magical pajamas. In this adventure, Ellie's cupcake pajamas pave the way for she and her Sis to take a journey to a land filled with all kinds of sweet treats. Their journey quickly turns into an adventure to help the Cupcake Queen find the missing sprinkles needed for her coronation ceremony. In searching for the missing sprinkles, Ellie and Sis uncover a life lesson that is important for every child to learn.

About the author:
Sandra Hagee Parker lives in San Antonio, Texas with her husband, Ryan, and their daughters, Olivia and Elliana — the original pajama girls. A practicing attorney, Sandy is also a part of the music ministry at Cornerstone Church where she and her husband are leaders.

When not working or writing, Sandy enjoys traveling with her family and mastering the art of making Pancakes à la Pajama Girl with her two girls.

Visit the official website here: http://www.pajamagirl.com.  There you'll find some fun activity sheets for your kids to do, as well as more information about the book.

My Review:

"The Adventures of Pajama Girl" was a super cute story!  I like the creativity of the author and how the character, Ellie, can choose what she wants to dream about by what pajamas she wears.  In this story, as you can probably guess, she wears cupcake pajamas and has a whole cupcake adventure!

I found the story to be sweet, as did my kids.  I enjoyed the fact the book rhymed throughout as well.  I didn't find it particularly easy to read, though, because the rhyme scheme changed from page to page.  It didn't hurt the story, but it definitely kept me on my toes. ;-)

I highly recommend this book to anyone who has little girls!  I think it's the perfect book to read before bed to get the kids excited for some sweet, and possibly exciting, dreams. :-)

“Sometimes you have to believe something will be great before it actually is. Being positive is a choice that makes everything better, not to mention, a whole lot more fun!”

About the author:
Christy Ziglar, financial planner, mother of twins, and niece of legendary motivator and the world’s original optimist, Zig Ziglar, is bringing the same timeless wisdom and ageless advice to an entirely new, younger audience through her Shine Bright Kids picture book series. Christy, her husband, and their twins live in Atlanta, Georgia.

About the illustrator:
Paige Billin-Frye lives with her husband in Washington, D.C., where she gardens and grows food in her city yard. She has illustrated numerous children’s books and works in a studio over a neighborhood hardware store. Coincidentally, Paige has amassed a collection of rubber duckies of all sizes across the years.

You can find the other titles of the Shine Bright Kids series
HERE

My Review:
"Whatever Wanda!" is such a cute book!  Everything from the illustrations to the way the message is delivered in the story just makes me love it!  I think the message of staying positive is one that both children and parents alike need reminding of at times.  I could see keeping "Whatever Wanda!" handy to read from time to time when someone in the family needs to change their mood around. ;-)

I think this quote, at the beginning of the book, is a great one!  Such fun wording to remind us to have a positive attitude. :-)

The "Star Search" is another fun element to "Whatever Wanda!"  The kids have fun finding the star on every page. It's also neat to see how he feels depending on Wanda's attitude.

I highly recommend reading "Whatever Wanda!" with the kiddos in your life!
