My Review:
As the teen years approach for my daughter, I am realizing I can use all the help I can get.  While she's a great kid, there are a lot of outside influences that pull at good kids to do the wrong things.  The NIV Bible for Teen Girls has advice for girls, every few pages, using people and events in the Bible.  It helps girls relate the Bible to their own lives and the things that they may be going through.  I'm looking forward to giving this Bible to my daughter in a couple years so that she may study it and find the extra readings helpful as she navigates through the teen years.

Just a side note: I love the cover to this Bible!  It is quite stylish and one that I can see a teenage girl being happy to carry around. :-)

*Disclosure (in accordance with the FTC’s 16 CFR, Part 255: “Guides Concerning the Use of Endorsements and Testimonials in Advertising”): Many thanks to Propeller Consulting, LLC for providing this prize for the giveaway. Choice of winners and opinions are 100% my own and NOT influenced by monetary compensation. I did receive a sample of the product in exchange for this review and post.

About Strong and Kind:
Hardcover; 240 pages
Publisher: Harper Collins Christian Publishing (October 27, 2015)

In her new book STRONG and KIND: And Other Important Character Traits Your Child Needs to Succeed, Korie Robertson - New York Times bestselling author, wife of Duck Commander® CEO Willie Robertson, star of A&E's Duck Dynasty, and mother of five - argues that developing good character in our children is the single most important thing we can do to help ensure they lead happy, healthy adult lives.  Robertson explores key traits and what they truly look like in action, asks readers to select the two traits that they hope to see most in their children, and shares hands-on ways for nurturing strength of character.  Written with her mother Chrys Howard and featuring stories and wisdom from husband Willie, STRONG and KIND cuts through the contemporary cacophony of parenting manuals to rediscover, unfold, and embrace the enduring wisdom that has guided the best parents for centuries.

About Korie Robertson:
Korie Robertson, wife of Duck Commander® CEO Willie Robertson and star of A&E's beloved series Duck Dynasty, is a mother of five a New York Times bestselling author of several books, including The Duck Commander Family: How Faith, Family, and Ducks built a Dynasty, written with Willie; Faith Commander: Living Five Values from the Parables with Jesus, written with her mother Chrys Howard; and The Women of Duck Commander: Surprising Insights from the Women Behind the Beards about What Makes this Family Work, written with all of the Robertson wives.  She is also an in-demand public speaker, Duck Commander® executive, entrepreneur and found of boutique Duck and Dressing, and philanthropist, who remains active with a variety of organizations that focus on children, adoption, and foster care.  Korie lives with her family in West Monroe, Louisiana.

My Review:
I couldn't help getting drawn into "Strong and Kind".  Korie Robertson's advice in the book not only follows Biblical teachings, but it is also how she and Willie have raised their children.  She makes a whole lot of sense in the message she's delivering through her book and, if you read it, you'll see what I mean.

I also love that Korie is 'real'.  She doesn't pretend to be a perfect parent, but she and Willie are doing a great job and it shows in the character of their children.  All the more reason to take the advice given!  I've already started, and I plan to continue, to incorporate Korie's teachings into the upbringing of my children.

Strong and Kind can currently be purchased for $17.41 on amazon.com.

"When Calls the Heart: Follow Your Heart" DVD Review

*Disclosure: The following DVD was provided to me in exchange for my honest review.  I was not compensated in any way.  All opinions are my own.

About When Call the Heart: Follow Your Heart:
From celebrated author Janette Oke (The Love Comes Softly series) comes a rigorous and romantic adventure as epic as the wide frontier. Erin Krakow (Army Wives), Daniel Lissing (Eye Candy), Jack Wagner (Melrose Place) and Lori Loughlin (Full House, 90210) star in When Calls The Heart, “a beautiful story with roots in relationships, self-empowerment, and the enduring power of love” (Common Sense Media). While Jack and Elizabeth’s relationship has cooled following their arguments in Hamilton, Jack is hot on the trail of a counterfeiter right in Hope Valley! When he finds the culprit, a two-fisted brawl ensues as Jack apprehends the man. Seeing Jack in danger prompts Elizabeth to confront her feelings and seek him out… but she inadvertently sets Rip, Jack’s dog, loose at the same time. As a violent storm bears down on Hope Valley, Jack and Elizabeth search for Rip and take shelter in an old mineshaft together. But the storm won’t be escaped so easily, and the unstable shaft begins to collapse…

Take a peek at some of the episode:

My Review:
A wonderful season finale that leaves you hanging!  The ups and downs of Jack and Elizabeth's relationship continues!  The kids and I enjoyed this DVD just as much as the all the others. We're looking forward to the two-hour holiday special that we saw will be coming December 26th as well as Season Three that will premiere February 2016 on the Hallmark Channel.

Again, we highly recommend the When Calls the Heart series!  If you haven't started watching it yet, you're missing out! ;-)

"Adrenaline" DVD Review

*Disclosure:  The following film was sent to me in exchange for my honest review.  I was not compensated in any way.  All opinions are my own.

About Adrenaline:
A drag racer’s life is turned upside-down after a near fatal car crash, leaving him paraplegic. Joseph Jenkins (Michael Rosander), thinks his life is over, but while in the hospital, he meets Elijah Salisbury (Gregory Alan Williams), who gives him a new perspective on life and helps get him back to living. When Jason returns home,  an old friend of his father’s, Paul Sharpe (John Schneider) steps in and helps him back into a race car,and teaches him how to race all over again.

Running time: 93  minutes

Take a look at the trailer:

My Review:
Adrenaline surprised me!  I wasn't sure how much I'd enjoy a movie about car racing, as it's not something that typically interests me, but Adrenaline was so much more than that.  While racing was a big part of the movie, the ups and downs of Joseph's life, after his accident, is what really drew me in and made me want to keep watching to see the outcome.  Joseph had a lot of obstacles to overcome and eventually realizes that racing isn't what helps him be who he is, but it's God who he needs.

Adrenaline is a great movie that I'd highly recommend!  I wouldn't recommend this for younger kids, though, as it has some intense scenes.

Adrenaline can currently be purchased at ChristianCinema.com for $12.04.

My Review:
My kids and I really enjoyed watching Galaxy Buck: Mission to Sector 9!  It is such a fun and imaginative adventure that we laughed and learned about God's plans for us in a cute and creative way.  My daughter liked it so much that she said this was her favorite film with Buck Denver.  One part that I really got a kick out of was when Buck introduced himself to another character.  He said his name was Buck, Buck Denver and the character decided to call him Buck-Buck!  So cute!  The lesson that is taught in the episode is also a good one for us all to hear as well as far as trusting God with our dreams.

I highly recommend Galaxy Buck: Mission to Sector 9!  It's a fun film for all ages! :-)

"Unafraid" Devotional Review

*Disclosure:  I received a copy of the following book in exchange for my honest review.  I was not compensated in any way.  All opinions are my own.

About Unafraid:
A 365-day devotional that will encourage and help readers overcome the fear that consumes, disturbs, and paralyzes them.

To live without fear is one of the most challenging goals you can make in your life. Fear lurks in the deep recesses of the human heart and surprises even the most mature Christian.

There are over 400 instances in the Bible of God telling His children to not be afraid. If repetition of a matter has anything to do with importance, God decided this was a big one. But rather than being a command or admonition, the tone spoken in turn by God, angels, and disciples is compelling and encouraging, like a parent comforting a fearful child.

In UNAFRAID, Gracie Malone brings light, a touch of humor, stories, quotes, prayers, and encouragement to everyone who is fighting to trust in the only One who can take their fear away.

My Review:
I hate to admit that I tend to be a fearful person.  More so now as a parent than I was 10 years ago.  I have a tendency to worry and over-analyze situations constantly.  I don't want to be that way and try to give up that worry and fear knowing that God is in control, but I haven't been too good at it.

Because I tend to be fearful, I have really enjoyed reading the devotional, Unafraid.  It's been a daily reminder that God is in control and I really have no reason to fear.  I love that it's set up to read each day of the year, with scriptures and examples or stories.  It's been an easy devotional to read and, at times, truly brings peace to have the reminder of God's control over all situations.

I highly recommend picking up a copy of Unafraid!  It's a devotional that you'll be happy to delve into each day. :-)

Buy it!
Unafraid can currently be purchased at amazon.com for $13.60 (Hardcover) or $9.99 for the Kindle edition.

About When Calls the Heart: Heart and Home:
From celebrated author Janette Oke (The Love Comes Softly series) comes a rigorous and romantic adventure as epic as the wide frontier. Erin Krakow (Army Wives), Daniel Lissing (Eye Candy), Jack Wagner (Melrose Place) and Lori Loughlin (Full House, 90210) star in When Calls The Heart, “a beautiful story with roots in relationships, self-empowerment, and the enduring power of love” (Common Sense Media). Jack and Elizabeth leave Hope Valley and rush back to the city of Hamilton when they learn that Jack’s brother, Tom, was involved in an automobile accident… with Elizabeth’s sister, Julie! But Tom and Julie are hiding something about the incident, a deceit that puts Jack and Elizabeth at odds with their families… and with each other. Their trip is further complicated when Tom and Julie endeavour to run off together – via train this time – and Elizabeth’s father offers Jack a job – an offer that puts Jack and Elizabeth’s fledgling romance in peril yet again.

Take a look at the trailer:

My Review:
Another great When Calls the Heart DVD!  My kids and I had a movie night to watch this and absolutely loved it!  I don't know how they can keep coming up with new and intriguing episodes, but they do and they do it well.  Heart and Home added some new twists to the show and the kids felt like we were left hanging at the end. We were so anxious to know what happens next that we had to go online and watch the trailer for the next one.  The trailer wasn't enough.  We still can't wait to watch how things play out for Jack and Elizabeth in the upcoming DVD! :-)

Be sure to catch When Calls the Heart on the Hallmark Channel if you have it.  If not, check into seeing it another way or buy the seasons.  You'll be happy you did!
