From Janet
Ivey
“For the past decade,
science education has been my passion and America’s children have been my
inspiration. It is incredible to see how excited children can become about the
world around them when the information is presented in an accessible and fun
way. That is the mission of Janet’s Planet, and I look forward to continuing to
support better science education in the years to come.”
My Review:
"Exploring Microgravity" from Janet's Planet was a lot of fun to watch! It reminded me of watching an educational science show on PBS. Janet did a wonderful job of explaining weight, mass, gravity and microgravity in a way that my kids and I enjoyed and understood. She even went into the history behind the science and the different scientists that discovered the different aspects of gravity.
My kids' (and my) favorite part was when Janet boarded a special plane, Zero G, where she was able to experience lunar and microgravity. She was was able to do push-ups effortlessly and drink balls of water as they floated through the air. The kids thought that was super cool! ;-)
Some other interesting things were learning how the body changes in microgravity and the fact that simulating microgravity for an extended time can only occur on flights like the one Janet went on, which is only 20-25 seconds at a time. There are no machines that can simulate it-that's only in the movies! ;-)
This DVD would be a great addition to homeschooling curriculum or just for any science loving family! :-)
