Tooth Fairy Pillows

When I was little, I had always wondered how the 'tooth fairy' had gotten my tooth out from under my head and left money without me even knowing. That tooth fairy must have been really tricky to not wake me up! Since having little ones of my own it has been a concern that when they start losing teeth that the 'tooth fairy' will accidentally wake them up and ruin the whole thing for them.

Then I came across tooth fairy pillows for the first time on a blog about a year ago and thought they were the neatest thing! With a tooth fairy pillow there would be no concern of waking the little ones because the tooth wouldn't be under their head! Neat, right? (I seriously have no idea why I have thought about these things when the kids are so far off from losing teeth...LOL!) So, of course, I've tried winning one anytime I've come across them since, and I finally got lucky!

It's Up!

Friday was a busy day, but the basics of the play set got together. What didn't get done Friday, Rich finished Saturday, except for the canopy. The canopy will be added when the wind dies down enough for it to be safe to put on. (I'll take another picture then, so everyone can see it totally finished.)

Rich took about an hour on Friday to take all the pieces from the bundles and lay them out in numerical order. He took a break for a while to start planting the garden. I was babysitting Rich's buddy's little guy (the 5 month old) while the buddy, Dave, was working. Dave stopped back about 2:30 to help Rich put the play set together. (I still babysat until Dave's wife came, then she stayed for a while too.)

All in all, the play set went together really well. We came in about 9:30 Friday night, but Rich had finished a while before that. (Yeah-we were playing!) There were a few setbacks as you'll see in the little slide show, but if the guys could have worked nonstop, it would have been together quite quickly.

This was my first time making a slide show like this. It's a little over 4 minutes and there is actually music! (Just the sample music that came on the computer. Maybe I'll try a little harder finding some different music the next time.)


Isn't the play set great?! We're extremely happy with everything about it!

• The instructions that came with it were really easy to follow. There was even a check off list that Rich made sure to go through before starting.
• It is made of wood that we never have to stain. Plus it is a beautiful color!
• The chains are coated so the kids' fingers don't get pinched.
• The slide and swings are just awesome! You can't help but smile when you get to the bottom of the slide and I don't think I've ever sat in more comfortable swings.
• Rich loved being able to put the rock wall together the way he wanted to. (He made one side the easy side and the other side the hard side.)
• The kids just love everything. They would stay out there all day if they could! :-)

I can't thank Dad Blogs and Kid's Creations enough for this amazing prize! It is truly a wonderful play set that I know my kids are safe on and it will probably last long enough for my grand kids to play on. Bear was even excited to see it!

A super nice delivery guy from ABF Freight came at 10:45 this morning and unloaded the 1100 lbs of play set all by himself. I would have helped, but I think someone would have ended up hurt. (Most likely me! LOL!) He had it all under control with his lift and hand truck, but I sure felt bad for him because it was HEAVY!

As you can see, there is still the big job of putting it together. I'll post another update when we get to that. I'm hoping we have the chance this weekend, because Morgan is REALLY excited about her new play set! :-)

The New Camera!

My new camera came in the mail on Monday and I wanted to share a little comparison of cameras with you:

Old Camera

My old camera is a Sony Cyber-shot that I got as a college graduation present in the Spring of 2004. It is a 5.0 Mega Pixel camera with a 3x optical zoom. (If that is worded funny to you, it's because I have no clue what I'm talking about! LOL!) I'm pretty sure it was one of the better cameras at the time.

New Camera

This is my new camera that was won along with the play set from Dad Blogs. It is a Canon Power Shot A1100 IS. (I think IS stands for Image Stabilizer, but I'm not sure what that means...yet.) It is a 12.1 Mega Pixel camera with a 4x optical zoom. I've only played with it a little bit, but it is REALLY cool! :-)

Accessories I didn't know that this was coming with the camera, but I also got a camera case and a second memory card!

I didn't realize just how outdated my old camera was until I started playing with the new one. I think it must have face recognition and a really neat autofocus! It makes all these fun sounds too while it's doing it's thing-LOL! The one thing that this camera doesn't do that my old one does is plug in to recharge. I'm going to have to get used to buying and switching out batteries now, but I think it will be more convenient, when we're out and about or on vacation, than hauling around cords!

The Bright Side of Disaster

I actually won something! I won a novel called "The Bright Side of Disaster" by Katherine Center. In winning it, I was asked to write a Blog about it after reading it, so that is what I'm doing (at least I think so-I've never blogged about anything before.)
I loved the book! I'd recommend it to any new mom or actually any mom at all! The book is about a woman, Jenny, who finds herself pregnant and due about a month before her scheduled wedding. Then, despite her circumstances, her fiance leaves her the day before she has the baby. I think what I enjoyed most about it was how the author describes the struggles she went through taking care of a new baby-everything was so true! The reader (if they're a mom) can really relate to everything from trying to breastfeed, to no longer being able to cook anymore. The reader will also fall in love with Jenny's neighbor, Gardner, who is extremely understanding (for a guy) and very helpful while she is trying to adjust to single motherhood. My only complaint is the swearing, but the circumstances where the language arises is completely understandable and kids wouldn't be reading this anyway :-)
So again, this book is a must read for new moms. It is very hard to put down once you get started. I would have read it in all at once if I didn't have cute little distractions to tend to. :-)
