Wordless Wednesday: Frugal Fall Garden

This little flower bed usually just has some tulips in the Spring then nothing (or weeds) the rest of the year, but this year I decided to spruce it up a bit for fall :-) After cleaning it out and adding fertilizer (thanks to the steers), we were given mums from Morgan's dance teacher. And since our pie pumpkins didn't come up this year, Grandma let us take some of hers'. For not spending a penny on it, I think it turned out pretty cute! :-)

**Thank you Grandma, Morgan's dance teacher and 'The Boys' (our steers) for our little fall garden! :-)

Some Science Fun!

The Ann Arbor Hands-On Museum came to visit during our town's festival this summer. When I saw they were going to be there, I knew it would be fun to go, since the actual museum is a blast. Plus, I couldn't beat that the kids got to do this all for free! :-)

The kids started off by playing with magnets to see how they work.

Then Morgan got messy with cornstarch and water. Depending on how fast you move it, it is both a solid and a liquid. (I think this is the neatest thing! If you haven't tried it, you should!)

Morgan made water stay in an upside-down pint jar with just a piece of a window screen! (Also super cool!)

Then they were able to stick pencils through plastic bags full of water and see how many they could put in before it started leaking :-)

They also enjoyed shaking 2 sets of bottles to match up the material that was on the inside. (One set of bottles was clear while the other set was brown, so you couldn't see in.)

The last thing they did was cut little rectangular pieces of paper and try to make it as long as possible. (Tough for little ones, but my mom and I had fun giving it a try!)

We spent a good amount of time trying out all the fun hands-on science experiments they had. I never knew that the museum traveled around doing these things with kids before, but I'm glad they do! Definitely worth the trip into town! :-)
