My Review:
As much as I hate to admit it, my daughter is getting to be a young lady.  The child she was is slowly leaving and she is becoming more interested in grown-up matters.  I am grateful that she is still quite naive but I know, with our current culture, she won't stay that way much longer.  I'd like to be able to guide her through all the confusion of becoming a young adult, but I know I can use all the help I can get too!!  Having a devotional like "Adored" for her to read each day and stay grounded in God's word and advise is going to be a great help!

I plan to give my daughter "Adored: 365 Devotions for Young Women" for Christmas this year.  We've done devotions together each night since she and her brother were toddlers.  As she becomes more independent, she has liked the idea of having her own devotional and she is more than ready.  (Of course, we'll be doing devotions as a family still too!)

I've read through several of the devotions in "Adored" and I couldn't be happier giving this to my daughter as a gift!  It's full of wonderful reminders of God's plans for her and the way she should be living...it's been great for me too!  (Maybe we'll read it together!?  I'm still a young woman, right? ;-)  )

I highly recommend this devotional to anyone with young ladies in their lives!  It truly is a great one!

Once Upon A Time Storybook Bible and NIrV Holy Bible Review #OnceUponATimeBible #FlyBy

*Disclosure (in accordance with the FTC’s 16 CFR, Part 255:  “Guides Concerning the Use of Endorsements and Testimonials in Advertising”):  Many thanks to Propeller Consulting, LLC for providing this prize for the giveaway.  Choice of winners and opinions are 100% my own and NOT influenced by monetary compensation.  I did receive a sample of the product in exchange for this review and post.

About the Once Upon a Time Storybook Bible and the Once Upon a Time Holy Bible:

With the popularity of fairy tales and Disney animation, and especially with the new release of Disney’s live action Beauty and the Beast on March 17, Zonderkidz wanted to publish a storybook Bible and full -text Bible (Holy Bible offered in hardcover, and pink leathersoft editions) that would resonate with children and families who loved those types of movies, and loved reading a great story.

The art will captivate Disney lovers with similar looking characters and color palettes

Zonderkidz wanted to capture fans of this genre, but introduce young children to the word of God, and introduce them to the great characters of the Bible. It’s important to note that this brand serves to resound the theme that the Bible is NOT a fairy tale, but every great Bible story happened once upon a time. The Bible is the ultimate Happily Ever After story!

What Christian parent doesn’t want to tie in Bible learning fun with what their kids already love, but also have the opportunity to teach them that the real heroes and stories of our faith come straight from God’s Word.

The Storybook Bible utilizes even more of the captivating art style and beautiful narrative to tell the major stories of the Bible (http://www.zondervan.com/once-upon-a-time-storybook-bible) , and the Holy Bible (http://www.zondervan.com/nirv-once-upon-a-time-holy-bible-hardcover & (http://www.zondervan.com/nirv-once-upon-a-time-holy-bible-imitation-leather) includes the full-text of the bestselling New International Reader’s Version (NIrV) translation, and highlights 6 great stories of the Bible in full-color tip-in pages.  (There will be 6 stories, and each story is told on 4 illustrated pages.)

************************

My Review:

The Storybook Bible is a good size book at 9" x 11", so it is quite big.  It contains 33 stories and 144 pages.  The stories are only four pages long so they are perfect for children with short attention spans.  And, with much of those four pages covered in pictures, little ones' eyes will be occupied looking while the story is read.

The pictures are also very neat!  They definitely remind me of a fairy tale story with the illustrations... especially the facial features of the characters.  Even the pages with only words are decorated nicely with different borders to brighten up the page.

Not only does each story start with "Once Upon a Time", but it also ends with a "Happily Ever After" Bible verse to go with the story!  The Once Upon a Time Storybook Bible is a great way to introduce young ones to the stories of the Bible.

***************

The Once Upon a Time Holy Bible is illustrated the same as the Storybook Bible.  It IS a 1144 page Bible with a handful of colorful pages throughout with shortened versions of Bible stories on them.

While it is a very nice Bible, I think the shortened stories are little too short.  There are some fun, interesting, parts of the stories that my children were disappointed were not included.

Even though the stories are a bit short, the Once Upon a Time Holy Bible would make a wonderful first Bible for a young child.  It has enough colorful stories to intrigue them, yet is still a Bible that they can follow along in and learn from.

The covers of both the Storybook Bible and Holy Bible say "The Bible is not a fairy tale.  Every great story happened once upon a time."  What a great way to start little ones off with that reminder!  Most Bible stories sound like other fairy tales that children hear, but they need to understand that these stories truly happened and that they happened for a very important reason.

********************

Buy Them!
The Once Upon a Time Storybook Bible is available at Sam's Club or where books are sold for $16.99.  The Once Upon a Time Holy Bible is available where books are sold for $24.99.  They would make great gifts for Easter baskets!

*Disclosure: I was provided the following in exchange for my honest review.  I was not compensated in any other way.  All opinions are my own.

About Season 3:
From celebrated author Janette Oke (The Love Comes Softly series) comes a rigorous and romantic adventure as epic as the wide frontier.  Erin Krakow (Army Wives), Daniel Lissing (Eye Candy), Jack Wagner (Melrose Place) and Lori Loughlin (Full House, 90210) star in When Calls the Heart, a beautiful story filled with "nostalgic...escapist fun" (Filmintuition.com)!

A strong-willed teacher who has foregone the life of the big city, Elizabeth Thatcher (Krakow) has made the small frontier town of Hope Valley her home, with no small help from a handsome Mountie named Jack (Lissing).  But life on the frontier can hand you many tough turns, and so it is for Jack and Elizabeth as they face pressures put upon them by family, friends, rivals, lawless criminals and even catastrophic natural disasters in their quest to find their place in this remote and rugged land.

My Review:
I've said it many times in my reviews of the When Calls the Heart DVDs, but my family really can't get enough of this wholesome, family-friendly show!  It truly is wonderfully refreshing to watch!  This collection of Season 3 is the perfect set for any fan of the show.  I'd highly recommend it as a wonderfully thoughtful gift this Christmas that can be enjoyed, as it is watched, over and over again!

"Baby, Baby!" Board Book Review & GIVEAWAY! (Ends 10/5) #FlyBy

About Baby, Baby!

A sweet, colorful board book that appeals to a baby's interest in looking at other babies.
Babies enjoy books, looking at other babies, and their own flowering abilities. This short rhyming poem combines all three in a sweet and happy way, while introducing babies to God's love for them. The simple words are paired with colorful images of babies engaging in familiar activities, allowing the book to be used as an introductory concept book as well. And it ends with a reminder that Baby is always loved by God.

My Review:
Baby, Baby! is everything a board book should be and more!  Little ones will be engaged in looking at all the sweet baby faces, as well as all the catchy colors.  The wording is simple, sweet and rhymes!  Rhyming really adds to the fun of reading to babies. Baby, Baby! contains not just one, but TWO mirrors for little ones to see themselves IN the book!  It's a very solid board book that will not only be easy for little fingers to turn pages, but will also hold up well.  This sweet book ends with a simple statement about baby being loved by God.  A message that can never be taught too soon.

I highly recommend Baby, Baby! for parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc. to read to the little love in their life.  It will make for some great bonding time!

"Caged No More" DVD Review

*Disclosure:  The following DVD was provided to me in exchange for my honest review.  I was not compensated in any other way.  All opinions are my own.

About Caged No More:
Inspired by real events, “Caged No More” is the story of Aggie Prejean, a grandmother on a desperate search to find her two granddaughters, Skye and Elle, who have been kidnapped by their sinister father. As the details behind the girls’ disappearance begin to unravel, they have been discovered to have been taken overseas to be sold into the sex trade. Aggie enlists the help of the girls’ uncle, a well-respected local philanthropist, and his son Wil, who is former Special Forces. A global hunt ensues, and the team will stop at nothing to see the girls safely returned home.

My Review:
Caged No More is a movie that I have to say I was quite interested in watching when I received it being that it is about sex trafficking.  I've just heard recently that the human trafficking business is huge.  (I knew that it was going on, I just didn't realize how much.)  My state, the state of Michigan, is No. 2 in the country for human trafficking.  Shocking.  With it being such a big criminal industry, how is that I haven't been hearing more about it!?

With all that said, Caged No More is a great movie to bring more awareness to the human trafficking industry.  It's a very moving film and very well made.  The lengths that loved ones went through, and the danger that they put themselves in, to save the lives of 2 girls was inspiring.  The faith that they had to make it through the trials was even more inspiring.

Caged No More is a great film that I think everyone with children should see.  Be aware of how easy it would be to lose your child to something like this.  Be active in your children's lives.  Make sure they know how much they're loved and valued.  And teach them the importance of safety on the internet and elsewhere.

Buy it!
The "Caged No More" DVD can be purchased on amazon.com for $12.29.

Be on the lookout for Caged No More II in 2017!

"Living Hope" DVD Review

*Disclosure:  The following DVD was provided to me in exchange for my honest review.  I was not compensated in any other way.  All opinions are my own.

About Living Hope
LIVING HOPE is the story of three extraordinary individuals who have devoted their lives to serving the poor in South Africa. It is a feature length documentary created by the filmmakers behind Journey to Everest, Apostles of Comedy, and Honoring a Father’s Dream: Sons of Lwala.  John Thomas, a pastor who is leading his church to serve the sick, hungry, and dying in the communities that surround them. Journey beside John through the neighborhoods where they work, meet the people their ministry has impacted, and hear from his heart why they chose to make a stand for the poor.  Joey Lankford, a businessman and father of four who moved his young family from the United States to Cape Town. Journey beside Joey as he equips men and women with job skills, and leads them out of the bondage of poverty.  Leonie Rustin, a single mom and nursing assistant, who turned from a life of crippling drug addiction to follow Christ. Journey beside Leonie as she attempts to help other in her community unshackle the chains of addiction and prostitution.

My Review
Living Hope isn't just the name of this film, it's the name of an amazing organization in Cape Town, South Africa that is working to show Jesus to those who are hurting.  Unfortunately, there are many, MANY, hurting in Cape Town from all sorts or things...poverty, disease, drug addiction...and the list goes on.  I can't begin to relay how moving this film was to watch.  It's amazing what sharing God's love with others can do...not just by telling them, but by serving them and helping them.

This is a beautiful documentary that I highly recommend watching.  It'll move you to do more to help those in need as it has my own family. After viewing this film, my daughter asked if we could donate to the Living Hope ministry, which I think is an amazing idea. :-)

"When Calls the Heart: Troubled Hearts" DVD Review

*Disclosure: The following DVD was provided to me in exchange for my honest review.  I was not compensated in any other way.  All opinions are my own.

About When Calls the Heart: Troubled Hearts
From celebrated author Janette Oke (The  Love Comes Softly series) comes a rigorous and romantic adventure as epic as the wide frontier.  Erin Krakow (Army Wives), Daniel Lissing  (Eye Candy), Jack Wagner (Melrose Place) and  Lori Loughlin (Full House, 90210) star in  When Calls The Heart, “a beautiful story with roots in relationships, self-empowerment, and the enduring power of love” (Common Sense Media).

Big revelations are in store for Hope Valley as Elizabeth moves into her own row house, dismaying Jack, who has been planning to build a new home for the both of them. Take a peak at the trailer:

My Review:
I want more of When Calls the Heart every time I watch it!  It never disappoints, and always makes my family laugh as well as give us a warm fuzzy feeling after watching it.  Jack and Elizabeth work through even more of their relationship in this DVD and there is more trouble as always.  Each episode keeps us guessing and the next DVD couldn't make it to us soon enough.

This is one series that I don't think I could ever grow tired of.  If you haven't seen When Calls the Heart yet, make sure to check it out!

"Chasing Grace" DVD Review

*Disclosure:  The following DVD was provided to me in exchange for my honest review.  I was not compensated in any other way.  All opinions are my own.

About Chasing Grace
A tragic accident threatens to destroy a pastor’s family and sets into motion a complex betrayal between two brothers, while exposing secrets no one wants to face.

Pastor Jonathan Matheson lives in a world of black and white, yet finds a way to navigate the “grey in-between” to work to his advantage, while facing one of the most tragic moments of his life. Set in small-town America and woven inside a tale of redemption, “Chasing Grace” is a story of how one family takes on the burden of guilt in order to make sense of their loss. While pointing the finger of blame at his brother, Pastor Jonathan also chooses to hide from the truth while trying to escape his own personal demons. “Chasing Grace” is loosely based upon true events and provides a powerful story about the redeeming power of forgiveness.

Take a peak at the trailer:

My Review:
Chasing Grace was an interesting and moving film.  I think it did a great job at showing how alcoholism can destroy a person and everyone around them.  The movie covered every negative aspect of alcohol possible...from getting sick to people dying.  There was a lot of sadness which was dealt with in many different ways in the family.  I wish it showed more prayer and community support, but I think it was somewhat implied.

Unfortunately, I found parts of the movie confusing.  I think too many of the 'bad things' were implied throughout Chasing Grace and I found myself trying to read into what was going on.  I appreciate that they didn't want to show anything too negative, or intense, but maybe some of it should have been left out so the movie was easier to follow.

While Chasing Grace had its confusing parts, I'd still recommend it to those who have suffered from alcoholism in their family.  Maybe it could move them to take the steps toward forgiveness that was demonstrated in the film.

Buy it!
The Chasing Grace DVD can be purchased on amazon.com for $9.99.

"Awakened" DVD Review

*Disclosure: The following DVD was provided to me in exchange for my honest review.  I was not compensated in any other way.  All opinions are my own.

About Awakened
Newspaper reporter Jacob Harker (Rob Boltin) loses his job, forcing he and his wife, Haley (Gwendolyn Edwards), to move into a small rental house owned by Webster Cain (Michael Monks). In the process of moving in, Jacob discovers a discarded audio recording of 60’s blues singer Carol James (Hannah Hughes). Captivated by the voice on the recording, Jacob conducts an investigation into Carol James’ life and death.  Through his pursuit, Jacob becomes haunted by an evil spirit. While the spirit seductively persuades Jacob, drawing him deeper and deeper into its own malicious plot, the spirit attacks and terrorizes Haley, creating both fear and distrust in the Harker’s home. Haley sees her husband turning into someone less recognizable each day.
How can a marriage survive such attack, deception, and evil?
Can the faith of one help restore the condition of another?

Take a peak at the trailer:

My Review
"Awakened" isn't a movie that I'd typically pick out to watch.  I usually stay away from movies that have evil spirits and tend to be scary.  Fortunately, this movie is a Christian film and, although it got very intense, I knew I wasn't going to be grossed out or have nightmares after watching it.

The plot of the movie was interesting enough to make me want to keep watching it.  I like that it shows that the devil is working behind the scenes of the evil that happens, but that God always wins in the end.

I think the actors did an awesome job.  Unfortunately, I felt like the filming was a bit strange and sound was a little off.  I had to turn our TV all the way up to hear the movie

All-in-all a good film.  I'd recommend picking up a copy of Awakened and checking it out for yourself.

Buy it!
The Awakened DVD can be purchased on amazon.com for $9.99.

"The League and the Lantern" Book Review & GIVEAWAY! (Ends 5/22) #FlyBy #TheLeagueAndTheLantern

Choice of winners and opinions are 100% my own and NOT influenced by monetary compensation. I did receive a sample of the product in exchange for this review and post.

About The League and the Lantern:
The League and the Lantern is the first book in a new adventure series for middle-school readers. It all starts when a dangerous organization invades Jake Herndon’s seventh-grade sleepover. He escapes along with two new classmates, Lucy and TJ, only to face a 48-hour fight for survival on the streets of Chicago. The kids unravel a mystery dating back to the Civil War, and an incredible secret about Jake’s family. Along the way they learn unexpected lessons about courage, family and friendship.

Hardcover, 282 pages

About the Author: Brian Wells:
A concerned dad who couldn’t find quality entertainment for his kids. He has worked and produced 15 TV movies for the major networks, and this is his book debut.

My Review:
My kids and I can't get enough of this book.  We're halfway through it and absolutely LOVE it!  It has humor, mystery, adventure and is totally awesome!  The kids and I can't wait to read it together each night and then we don't want to stop.

The League and the Lantern is written wonderfully for both kids and adults.  Each chapter draws the reader in more, reveals a little more of the mystery and leaves the reader hanging just enough to want to read the next chapter.

I love how the characters interact with one another.  I really enjoy reading each part aloud to the kids and changing my voice to match the mood and expression. Of course the kids are loving it too.  I think it's great when they're laughing and enjoying the book just as much as I'm enjoying reading it to them!

I highly recommend The League and the Lantern to everyone (about 8 and up)!

**WILDFLOWER will be available on DVD and VOD April 5th, 2016 and airing on Lifetime Movie Network in June.

Take a look at the trailer:

My Review:
Wildflower draws the viewer in from the beginning and keeps you guessing right up until the very end.  Not only is it suspenseful, but it's also moving and just an all-around entertaining movie to watch.  While it may not be the most family-friendly, there are very few moments that are too intense.

The entertainment aspect is definitely a strong positive element of this film, but so it the faith component.  It shows how opening up and trusting can lead to healing...not only for one character, but several. It really shows how God works in mysterious ways!

A great film that I can see everyone enjoying.  I highly recommend purchasing a copy of Wildflower!
