Last Friday the kids each brought home a White Pine from school. They were each very proud of their little trees and were anxious to plant them.
Not knowing how our yard is going to be dug up to fix things up over the next couple years, we didn't want to plant them here, so Rich asked his grandma if we could plant them back where we get our Christmas trees. She insisted that the kids plant them near the picnic area, so they could keep a better eye on them and watch them grow. :-)
The kids invited their uncle to come along and help. Maybe with his horticulture/landscaping background their trees will have a better chance of making it! ;-)
We couldn't have asked for nicer weather to be outdoors. It was sunny and near 70 all day! This was actually only a tiny portion of the time spent outside that day.
If it wasn't for the school sending home trees, we probably wouldn't have done anything major for Earth Day this year. It made for a fun little activity to do together and maybe next year we'll actually plant a bunch of trees like we always talk about but never do... ;-)

That was a great idea on the school's part, and I like that it was a collaborative family effort to plant. :)
That is so neat and they will love watching it grow.
Planting trees sure can be hard work. Looks like the kids enjoyed it though.
